The leather goods and footwear industry has been growing rapidly and bringing optimism to the country's export potential, which is dominated by the RMG sector. The leather industry has potential to develop and become a leading export potential by utilizing the large supply of low-cost labor and raw material.Bangladesh's leather industry produces a variety of leather goods, including footwear, bags, belts, and wallets.
During the fiscal year 2023-2024, non-leather footwear exports surged by 120%, increasing from $189 million to $416 million. In comparison, leather footwear exports rose to just over $544 million in FY24, up from $483.81 million in FY15. The primary export destinations for these products include Spain, France, the Netherlands, South Korea, India, Italy, and Germany.
